Penland Christmas Tree Farm
Cut-your-own Christmas trees · York, South Carolina · York County
A York County favorite about forty minutes from uptown Charlotte, with nearly seventy acres of cypress and pine to cut yourself, weekend hayrides and a play area built from mulch.
Penland hands you a saw and a farm map, and you head into close to seventy acres of field trees, mostly cypress and pine that grow well in the Piedmont. If you want a Fraser fir, mountain-grown pre-cut ones are sold at the barn, along with balled trees and small trees for kids.
On weekends there are free hayrides, hot chocolate and coffee. Kids can climb Mulch Mountain, and the Treasure Barn sells wreaths and tree stands. A picnic area and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows round out the visit. The farm opens daily from the day after Thanksgiving.
