A large McHenry County tree farm near the Wisconsin line with about 75 acres of cut-your-own fields, a heated sales barn and free weekend wagon rides out to the rows.
Hand saws are provided, and the crew will haul your tree back, shake out loose needles and wrap it in netting before you leave. One flat price covers any cut-your-own tree regardless of height, and the farm grows Fraser, Canaan, concolor and Douglas fir along with blue spruce and white pine.
Inside the barn you will find indoor restrooms, homemade donuts, fudge and hundreds of wreaths, most made on the farm. Leashed dogs that get along with other dogs are welcome. The fields are not lit, so plan to finish cutting before dark. The same family runs a separate adventure farm with tulips in spring and pumpkins and sunflowers in fall.
