Oney's Tree Farm
Cut-your-own Christmas trees · Woodstock, Illinois · McHenry County
A long-running harvest-your-own tree farm on Route 14 outside Woodstock, with about 60 acres of trees in nine varieties, a barn gift shop and a kitchen serving lunch and warm cinnamon buns.
Bring a bow saw or borrow one from the saw shed, since chainsaws and electric saws are banned on the farm. Lay a tarp down to cut, then slide your tree to the hay wagon pickup, where it is wrapped for the ride home. A tape measure, layers and waterproof boots help, and sleds for hauling are limited, so families with small children may want to bring a wagon.
The barn kitchen serves pizza, chili, hot dogs, apple cider donuts and cinnamon buns until mid-afternoon, and the gift shop sells wreaths. Mrs. Claus and ponies visit on select weekends. Pre-cut and balled-and-burlapped trees are also sold, and leashed, friendly pets are allowed.
