Woods Tree Farm
Cut-your-own Christmas trees · Amelia Court House, Virginia · Amelia County
A 43-acre farm in northern Amelia County, about an hour west of Richmond, where reserved visitors tag and cut their own cypress, pine, fir or spruce, with a weekend bonfire and pre-cut Fraser firs as a backup.
Cut-your-own visits are by reservation with a $50 deposit that goes toward your tree, and reservations open each fall on October 1. The field holds Leyland, Murray and Carolina Sapphire cypress along with smaller numbers of Scotch pine, Canaan fir and Norway spruce. Farm saws are available, or bring your own hand saw; netting and rope tie-downs are free.
If nothing in the field suits you, the deposit can go toward a pre-cut North Carolina Fraser fir. Weekend visits include a bonfire with hot chocolate or cider and photo props, and the shop sells wreaths and handmade gifts. Leashed dogs are allowed on short leads. It is a working farm, so wear boots and bring a tarp to kneel on.
