Greene Tree Farm
Cut-your-own Christmas trees · Boone, North Carolina · Watauga County
A family farm above Howard's Creek, planted since 1984, with thousands of mountain-grown Fraser firs from small tabletop trees up to about twelve feet, plus hayrides and a Christmas shop.
You walk the rows and pick your Fraser fir, and the crew cuts it, bales it and loads it onto your car. The farm can also drill the trunk so the tree drops straight onto a pin-style stand.
Hot cocoa and apple cider are on the house, and there is a hayride and a small Christmas shop with wreaths. The last stretch of road is gravel, so allow extra time. In summer the same family runs pick-your-own organic blueberries by the gallon. Opening days are limited and hours change from day to day, so check the schedule before you drive up from Charlotte.
