A Fraser-fir-only cutting field run by Prince Trees outside Grand Haven, open for just a handful of days each season, where any tree you choose sells for one flat price.
This field is all Fraser fir, and the price is the same whatever the height, which makes it worth a trip for anyone who wants a soft-needled fir without paying by the foot. Handsaws are provided, and shaking, baling and drilling cost a dollar apiece. Stands and tree bags are sold on site.
The field opens only on a few Saturdays and the Thanksgiving weekend, so check the farm's schedule before you drive out. Bring cash or a local check, since cards are not accepted.
